Mamata Banerjee asks partymen to give report on RSS and ABVP's activities in 15 days
KOLKATA: Worried by the growth of Rashtriya Sawayamsevak Sangha ( RSS) and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad ( ABVP) in Bengal, Mamata Banerjee has asked all her district unit leaders to prepare reports on the activities of these two organisations and send them to her within a fortnight.

Mamata is likely to assess the situation in the districts in the wake of the recent rise of these two units and chalk out a plan to check their activities, said people aware of the developments within Trinamool Congress ( TMC).

Recently, ABVP had won the students' union elections in two colleges in the Maoist-infested Purulia district by defeating the students organisation of the ruling TMC. Upset at the result, Banerjee summoned her leader — Shantiram Mahato — in Purulia to understand the reasons of defeat. In 2013, ABVP had just 60 units in West Bengal's different colleges and universities.

But this year, the number has swelled to 325, and this sudden proliferation of the students' organisation owing allegiance to BJP has irked Banerjee immensely. In West Bengal, RSS has got 60,000 full-time volunteers and the organisation had organised a camp in north Bengal's Raigunj district. The chief minister, it is learnt, is aware of this development and has asked her district units to prepare a detailed report on their activities. The massive crowd at last Saturday's rally organised by RSS and VHP in Kolkata also didn't go down well with the CM, who is under pressure following the CBI probe into the Saradha fund scam.
