KOLKATA: Politically, the judgement is the single most major victory for the Left Front’s political opposition in the state, specifically Trinamool Congress.

The virtual war over Singur between Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee and cheif minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee wasn’t exactly going the latter’s way despite the continued imposition of the prohibitory orders.

Ecstatic over the judgement, Ms Banerjee asked Tatas to shift their project and advised the chief minister to retire from politics.

“The court has given a historic order. The Left Front government had been trying to ban all political activiites at Singur. The opposition as well as other organisations have been vehemently opposing the acquisition of multi-crop land. I will go to Singur on February 17 and address a gathering there. I guess nobody will now be able to prevent us from holding rallies and meetings there following the High Court order,” she told ET.

Ms Banerjee has announced her plans of going there and holding a rally on February 17.
