Kolkata: Mamata Banerjee-led AITC held a demonstration in the Rajabazar area of Kolkata on Tuesday, demanding the resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar over SIR. The party had called for a rally from Rajabazar to Park Circus.

As protesters proceeded further towards Park Circus, police stopped them citing the absence of permission for the programme. The party workers then staged a demonstration in Rajabazar and raised slogans against BJP and CEC. Earlier, Kolkata Police Commissioner Ajay Kumar Nand said that the authorities had received no official intimation about the rally, which was mandatory. He added that the police had not been informed about the procession's route.
