Mamata accuses Left of unleashing terror in West Bengal
Mamata Banerjee accused the Left Front of harassing her supporters
"Our party workers and supporters are being constantly targeted in West Bengal. The CPI(M) has gone completely berserk after the defeat of the Left Front in the Lok Sabha elections in the state," Banerjee said.
Terming the attacks as "state-sponsored terrorism", the Trinamool chief said, "Many of our volunteers are murdered in the recent violence unleashed by the CPI(M) cadre. Our party members are being harassed and tortured."
Accusing the state's police of being "hand-in-glove" with the Left activists, she said police should act as a neutral force and maintain peace in the state. "Human rights violation cases are rampant in the state," she alleged.
Banerjee also condemned recent attack on media in West Bengal. "We condemn the attack on media and we are for harmony in the society. Everyone has a right to live with dignity."
Describing the situation in the state as "tense", she appealed for maintaining peace. "The Government should take steps to restore law and order in the state," she said.
