Malabar Chamber urges Centre to review price hike
Condemning the recent hike in prices of petrol and diesel, the Malabar Chamber of Commerce has urged the Centre to review its decision to avoid further financial burden on the public.
"The hike is unnecessary as the country has enough foreign exchange reserves to meet the situation", Chamber President, C P Kunhumohammed said in a memorandum to Union Petroleum Minister Murali Deora.
Noting that the increase in fuel prices in recent times had already come as a severe burden to the common man, he said tha the petroleum companies, which were even otherwise recording handsome profits, were only putting the public into hardship.
"The Centre should therefore review its decision and roll back the prices", he said.
He also urged the Kerala Government to reduce state taxes on petrol and diesel. "The impact will be severe on the state as it is already dependent on other states for most of the essential commodities", Kunhumohammed added.
