Make Suresh Kalmadi's statements to CBI public: BJP

MUMBAI: BJP today demanded that sacked CWG Organising Committee Chairman Suresh Kalmadi's statements to CBI after his arrest be made public and the role of the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) in the scam be probed by the investigating agency.

BJP National Secretary Kirit Somaiya told reporters here that the role of the PMO should be investigated by CBI.

Somaiya said "Prime Minister Manmohan Singh owes an explanation to the country on why Suresh Kalmadi was being protected by him despite three Sports Ministers from 2004 including late Sunil Dutt had questioned the decision to appoint Kalmadi as the Organising Committee ( OC) Chairman when it was already decided that Sports Minister would hold that post."

The BJP leader alleged Singh had rejected all demands to remove Kalmadi from the top post.

"We would like to know why the Prime Minister acted like Dhritarashtra," he said and wanted to know under whose pressure he was.
