Majuli to be the nerve centre of governance: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal

GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said river island Majuli will become the nerve center of operations and cultural activity in the state.

On September 8, cabinet meeting of BJP led government will be held in Majuli. The river island will be declared as an independent district on Thursday.

The river island, which is the site of Vaishnavite heritage is the assembly constituency of Sonowal.

Sonowal said that government has lot of plans for Majuli. "A world class Cultural University will be set up in Majuli which will spread the essence of Satriya culture and preserve the Satriya culture through quality research."

Chief Minister said that an Ayurvedic Hospital in Majuli will also come up. "Setting up of organic industries in the coming days is also a thrust area for Majuli."

Sonowal said that a comprehensive plan has been made to go for dredging Brahmaputra River with the help of funds from the World Bank and Asian Development Bank. A workshop in this regard was also held in Guwahati with the experts of Dredging Corporation of India.

Sonowal said that to deal with flood in Majuli in an effective and quick manner, A Rapid Action Center of Water Resources Department will be set up so that flood management work can be expedited in crisis situation.
