NEW DELHI: The two bombs which went off in the posh Greater Kailash M Block market this evening could have caused major damage to people shopping in the area on the weekend if the market authorities had not used the public address system in time.

Only two people were injured in the two blasts which occurred within a period of seven minutes here. The first bomb exploded at around 6.40 pm, police said.

"As soon we witnessed the first explosion in a dustbin in front of the Levi's showroom in in the middle of the market, we requested the shoppers here through the public address system in the market to hide inside the shops and gather in the park located in the middle of the market," said Rajendra Sarda, President M block market association.

The quick action by the market association and the beat police personnel averted major damage to human lives in the successive blasts that took place at around 6.45 pm in a bicycle rickshaw in front of the popular Prince Pan Corner.

"The timely action by the market association and police personnel averted a major tragedy as the second blast which took place near Prince Pan was of greater intensity than the first one," said HGS Dhaliwal, Deputy Commissioner South Delhi.

Two people were reported injured in the second blast in which a scooter and a maruti 800 parked near the spot were completely damaged.
