NEW DELHI: Creating history, Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa might attend swearing in ceremomy of Prime Minister designate Narendra Modi in Delhi on May 26.

This will be first time that foreign leaders are being invited for swearing in of Indian Prime Minister and government. The President is inviting SAARC leaders to attend swearing in.

While there is no formal confirmation but there are expectations that Rajapaksa might attend the ceremony. Sri Lankan media has compared Modi with Rajapaksas style of administration.

Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina will be in Japan around that time. Modi's message is very clear. He wants to emerge as leader of South Asia first before aiming high at global stage unlike Manmohan Singh, who did not make significant efforts to strengthen SAARC.
