Maheshtala bypoll: TMC increases lead, ahead by 28,000 votes after round 9

BJP was trailing in second spot with 18,940 votes, while the Left Front was third as it was able to manage 13,964 votes till then.

TMC candidate Dulal Das secured 47,293 votes, BJP nominee Sujit Ghosh bagged 18,940 votes.
Kolkata: The Trinamool Congress today surged ahead of its BJP rival in the Maheshtala Assembly seat in West Bengal by a margin of more than 28,000 votes after nine rounds of counting, EC sources said.

While TMC candidate Dulal Das secured 47,293 votes, BJP nominee Sujit Ghosh bagged 18,940 votes.

The Left Front candidate Prabhat Chowdhury, who is supported by the Congress, got 13,964 votes.


A total of 21 rounds of counting will take place.

The bypoll was held following the death of Trinamool Congress MLA Kasturi Das. The TMC has fielded her husband Dulal Das.

The election was held on May 28.
