Mahender Chaudhary visits ancestral village

Former Prime Minister of Fiji Mahender Chaudhary, who is a minister in the present interim government of the tiny Pacific island nation, is on another visit to his ancestral village here.

ROHTAK: Former Prime Minister of Fiji Mahender Chaudhary, who is a minister in the present interim government of the tiny Pacific island nation, is on another visit to his ancestral village here.

Chaudhary, who is leading a 3-member delegation of the Fijian government to hold talks with Indian leaders including Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, today headed straight for a relative's home in HUDA Sector 4.

Speaking to reporters while at Madhu Chaudhary's house, he said a draft charter for installation of a "non-racial" government in Fiji would be ready by August, followed by a public debate in October and a referendum in November- December.

Chaudhary, who hails from Bahu Jamalpur village, said a 44-member national council of members of the interm government and representatives from civil society were in the process of preparing the charter.
