MUMBAI: Maharashtra Government today announced to give Rs 50 lakh each to gold medal winners from the state, for their excellent performance at the recently concluded Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

Earlier, Commonwealth gold medalists used to receive Rs 10 lakh as prize money, an official spokesperson said.

The Maharashtra government would also give Rs 30 lakh each to silver medalists and Rs 20 lakh each to bronze medal winners, the official said.

Earlier, silver medalists used to receive Rs 7.5 lakh, while bronze medalists used to get Rs 5 lakh.

Sportspersons from Maharashtra won a gold, a silver and three bronze medals at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
