Maharashtra Raj Bhavan has collaborated with Floating Canvas Company, a digital art subscription startup to encourage works by upcoming artists in the estate. The collaboration has been facilitated by the Maharashtra State Innovation Society (MSInS), which secured permissions for the startup to showcase and deploy work of partner artists.

CH Vidyasagar Rao, governor of Maharashtra, said that it is heartening to see youngsters devising innovative ways to support artists and their craft.

The project involves thirty artworks installed across two Raj Bhavan heritage bungalows, featuring works of contemporary artists and photographers like Praveen Yarramili, Janil Gada, Rhea Gupte, Viraj Mithani, Ramesh Nannware, Shraddha More, Sajid Wajid Shaikh, Prashant Chaugule, Suzanne Dias, Pratap Chalke, Isha Pimpalkhare, Rohan Dahotre and Aniruddh Mehta.

“As an enterprise, we are always on the lookout for spaces that do justice to works of artists who are pushing the boundaries in fresh and unique ways,” said Rahul Singh Yadav, co-founder, Floating Canvas Company. “We could not have asked for a more iconic and inspiring space than Mumbai’s Raj Bhavan.”

Founded by Aagam Mehta, Shakti Swarup Sahu and Rahul Singh Yadav, Floating Canvas Company is an art-on-subscription service.

According to Aseem Gupta, secretary, skill development and entrepreneurship in the Maharashtra government, said that the Maharashtra Startup Week (of which Floating Canvas Company was one of the winners) was conceptualised to select and promote a group of startups with the potential to change. The project with the Raj Bhavan, he said, is a step in that direction.
