MUMBAI: Nomination papers of as many as 6,494 candidates in the fray for next month's Maharashtra assembly elections were found valid after scrutiny today, official sources said.

The total number of candidates who filed nominations from 288 assembly constituencies was 7,646, the election office said.

In Kudal, all nine candidates were found valid. Similarly, in Kolhapur North all 20 candidates who filed their papers remain in the fray, the election office said.

There were no rejection of papers in Chandgad too where nomination papers of all 39 candidates were found valid after scrutiny.

Other constituencies where no candidate's nominations were rejected are Sangole, where papers of all 24 candidates were found valid, besides Mohol (40 candidates), Karmala (20), Ausa (21), Srigonda (24), Mahim (9), Vile Parle (13), Andheri East (15), Andheri West (17), Kandivali East (16), Dahisar (13) and Ambernath (21).

The highest number of candidates is in Nanded South (85) and the lowest is in Sinnar (7) seat, official sources said.
