Maharashtra Police to donate Rs 15 crore for drought relief

MUMBAI: Maharashtra Police personnel have decided to contribute about Rs 15 crore for drought relief measures in the state, an official said today.

"Constables and Sub-Inspectors will donate their one day salary. Assistant Police Inspectors and above level officers will contribute their two days' salary of the current month towards drought relief," a police officer told PTI today.

The total contribution will come to around Rs 15 crore, he said, adding that the donation idea was mooted a few days ago and subsequently it was approved.

The total strength of the state police is about 1.80 lakh.

Two days ago, all Ministers decided to contribute one month's salary towards drought relief works in the State, where a dozen districts are reeling under acute water scarcity.
