Maharashtra: Jolt to BJP in MLC polls

The Congress and NCP candidates won in the Pune, Nagpur and Marathwada graduate constituencies and are leading in other two seats while the BJP’s Amrish Patel has managed to win the Dhule-Nandurbar seat.
Opposition leader Devendra Fadnavis said that ‘they would introspect the reasons for the loss’. “ We need to find out what went wrong, one of the reasons is that we didn’t have enough time for registrations to happen and the MVA used the state apparatus for increasing their registrations. However we would come back strongly.” Said Fadnavis.
He however did not lose the opportunity to taunt his former ally the Shiv Sena saying, “ While we have got one seat, the party which has its Chief Minister in the state has not even able to open its account.”
The Nagpur lost would hurt the BJP more as the BJP had the seat with them for several years, the seat was earlier represented by Gangadhar Fadnavis, father of Devendra Fadnavis and later by BJP’s Nitin Gadkari.
NCP chief Sharad Pawar responded to the win by saying that the win was a endorsement of the work of the MVA. “ This is a victory for the MVA, the Congress has won in Nagpur where it had never won earlier, similarly we have done well in Pune too. The picture is changing in Maharashtra.”said Pawar.
