Maharashtra lost political stalwart in A R Antulay's death: Vidyasagar Rao

MUMBAI: Maharashtra Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao today described former chief minister A R Antulay as one of the most popular and committed leaders who served people of the state and country with dedication and sincerity.

Antulay (85) died here of prolonged illness today. In his condolence message, Rao said, "Even though Antulay's tenure as chief minister of Maharashtra was brief, he was admired for his efficiency and administrative acumen."

"Till his end, Antulay maintained his chord with the people of Raigad, his home district. In his demise, Maharashtra has lost a political stalwart," the governor said.

In his condolence message, senior NCP leader Ajit Pawar said Antulay was above politics of caste and religion.

"His focus was welfare of the poor and the downtrodden. Antulay was a decision-maker and was known in political circles as a good administrator and organiser," he said.

Senior Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Bala Nandgaonkar said Antulay was a "father figure and a guide who tirelessly tried for all-round development of Konkan."
