Maharashtra & Haryana polls: Exit polls predict BJP win, party workers buoyant

MUMBAI: The mood in the BJP office on Tuesday shifted from being sombre due to the low voting percentage in the morning to exultation, after the exit poll results started trickling in.

Most exit polls predicted around 126 seats for the party as opposed to the majority of over 143 seats the party’s national leaders had been predicting, but some also gave a sweeping mandate to the party too.

However, Madhav Bhandari, spokesperson, BJP ( Maharashtra) asserted that the party was very confident of a sweeping mandate.

"Modiji has spoken his heart out to the people of the State and they will certainly listen to him."

Other leaders pointed out that a few days ago, party members were not even confident about crossing 100 seats and the prediction of 126 seats was a sign to show how fast the party had made an impression in the State. Two days ago, a team of senior BJP State leaders and some professional advertisers had drafted advertisements to be sent out to papers using Prithviraj Chavan’s interview to seek voters for them.

"Those who voted for Modi will definitely vote for us this time to finish the task that he has started,"said a BJP leader. A group of female volunteers sat in the control room all day coordinating complaints and taking action. Once in while, complaint calls came in about the difficulties elderly voters were finding in climbing the stairs in certain polling stations and BJP volunteers were quick to reach the venue to offer help.
