MUMBAI: Maharashtra Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao here asked housing societies and industrial establishments to switch over to solar power and help to save conventional power.

India is blessed with abundant sunlight and clean air and the 'Akshay urja' or solar energy should be used for the betterment of people, the Governor said while inaugurating a solar cooking event 'Maha Surya Kumbh' today.

Students from various schools of suburban Bandra also participated in it.

Scores of students including some differently-abled children took part in the cooking experiment and prepared noodles using the solar oven, a Raj Bhavan release said.

Union Minister of State (Independent charge) for Power, Coal and New and Renewable Energy Piyush Goyal and BJP MLA from Bandra Ashish Shelar were also present.
