MUMBAI: Maharashtra government today assured private institutions that it would look into their demand seeking aid for ashram schools for scheduled caste students run by them.

A delegation met Social Welfare Minister Vishnu Savra to highlight the issue that decision to provide grants to non-aided ashram schools run for scheduled caste students had remained only on paper.

Savra assured that he would look into the demand and provide the grants, sources said.

The erstwhile state government had taken a decision to grant aid to non-aided ashram schools for scheduled castes, but the decision had remained on paper for the last decade.

BJP's state unit had supported the agitation of about 290 private institutions running ashram schools seeking government aid.
