MUMBAI: The Maharashtra government today constituted a committee to prepare a report on the proposed Resouce and Training Centre at Sevagram in Wardha to promote cottage and village industries.

State Finance Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar, while presenting the annual budget of 2015-16, had announced the formation of the centre.

The committee will prepare a report and submit its recommendations of the government on the proposed project.

"The committee will prepare a report and submit it to the government regarding setting up of the Resource and Training centre to promote village industries, cottage industries and handicrafts with a view to implement the guiding principles of Mahatma Gandhi," Mungantiwar told reporters here.

He said the committee is entrusted with drafting and submitting a report outlining the establishment of the center in consultation with the Sevagram Trust and Divisional Commissioner, Nagpur.

"The committee will also determine the staffing pattern and course structure of the proposed institute required to run it efficiently, determining land requirement, and finalising the location of the institute," he said.

The committee is also expected to submit its views on how to incorporate the works included in the Sevagram Development Plan with the working of the proposed institute, the minister said.

The committee, headed by BJP National vice-president Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, will consist of principal secretary of Rural Development department V Giriraj, A G Rao of IIT Mumbai and Commissioner, Handicraft of Government of India.

It will also consist of Managing director of Maharashtra State Small Scale Industries Development Corporation, Director of Khadi and Village Industries Commission, Director of Central Bee Research and Training Institute among others.
