Maharashtra government plans launch of Mukhya Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana
MUMBAI: In a bid to give a big push to development of roads in the state, the Maharashtra government is all set to launch `Mukhya Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana' on the lines of the NDA government's flagship programme `Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY)'.

The initiative will see the state government spend Rs 13,500 crore to widen 3,000 km of rural roads and another Rs 328 crore on laying 730 new roads. The state Cabinet cleared the proposal on Wednesday which will see the state targeting the development of 30,000 km of roads. In the first phase, 2,000 km of roads would be taken up for development and the rest would be taken up in the next four years. The state government will take up the development of rural roads that are not covered under PMGSY.

The Cabinet has also decided in the wake of Chikki scam involving Pankaja Munde, that there would be new norms for procurement of goods.Under the new norms, any purchase of goods by government departments above Rs 3 Lakh would have to be done through e-tendering
