Maharashtra government launches e-Mahabhumi project for re-measurement of land

PUNE: Maharashtra government launched e-Mahabhumi, the pilot project for re-measurement of land in the state. The project is part of the national land record modernisation programme.

About 7000 hectare land in 12 villages in Pirangut and Mulashi will be measured using satellites and GPS. Maharashtra revenue minister Balasaheb Thorat said that the error in land measurement done using satellites and GPS will be less than six inches.

The earlier land measurement in the state was carried out during the British period from 1880 till 1930. However, due to use of modern technology, the same exercise will be completed in four to five years.

There are 35 districts and three lakh square meter land in the state. The funds for the project will come from central and state government.
