Maharashtra government allots 198 plots out of 2,603 MoUs signed in MII

MUMBAI: Maharashtra Industries Minister Subhash Desai today said out of 2,603 MoUs signed during the 'Make in India' week, the state government has allotted land to 198 industrial units, while 289 have applied for the same.

The MII week was organised here from February 13-18.

"Out of the 2,603 MoUs signed during MII, land has been allotted to 198 industrial units, while 289 have applied for allocation of land," he said.

Desai claimed that around 60 per cent of the MoUs are being actually converted into industries by the Maharashtra government.

"In Gujarat, the conversion of MoUs into actual investment has hardly been 6 to 7 per cent," he claimed.

"Out of the total number of MoUs, 50 per cent of the investment - Rs 4,06,000 crore- is in the industrial sector," Desai said.

He said 29 per cent investments were made in energy, 14 per cent in housing, 5 per cent in CIDCO, 1 per cent in tourism and others 1 per cent.

Region-wise, Pune with 820 MoUs topped the list, followed by Kokan 382, Nashik 306, Amravati 271, Aurangabad 235, Nagpur and Nanded 216 each and Mumbai Metropolitan Region 86.

Desai said the government is monitoring the conversion of MoUs into setting up of industries with investment and job creation at all stages in process.

"The government has made special reservations in land reserved for industrial purposes to Small and Medium industrial units in MIDC areas," he said.

To queries regarding water and power for these industrial units amid severe drought in the state, Desai said, "the government is now contemplating making it mandatory for cities and industries to use waste water and recycle it for using it for watering gardens, firing industrial boilers and other purposes."
