Farmers groups in the state have said that they would go on strike from March 1 as the state government has not accepted their demands.
A co-ordination Committee of the farmers that had called for the first ever farmers strike in Maharashtra that crippled the state and led to violence in many parts of the state.
Raghunathdada Patil a farmer leader and one of the members of the 21 member co-ordination Committee comprising various farmers groups said that since the state government had still not acceded to their demands on MSP and implementation of the MS Swaminathan Committee report they would go on a state wide indefinite strike.
This would be the second farmers strike that Maharashtra would see in a short while, in June last year the state saw farmers across the state going on strike demanding a farm loan waiver, getting a MSP for their crops and implementation of the MS Swaminathan Committee report. The strike that lasted more than a week eventually forced the Maharashtra government to agree for a loan waiver package for the farmers.
