Maharashtra constitutes a team of specialists to fight covid-19

Hours after scores of migrant workers gathered near Bandra railway station and sought arrangements to travel to their native places, Uddhav Thackeray, Maharashtra CM reviewing the situation told presspersons that the state has constituted a dedicated team of specialists to monitor the situation.

The task force will also come up with comprehensive guidelines for covid treatment.Maharashtra has recorded highest number of cases- surpassing the 2000-mark.

He also promised the migrants of all possible help- food, shelter and necessary medication. Thackeray also urged the migrants to stay in their current locations and assured them of necessary arrangements once the situation improves.


Underlining his govt's approach to contain the virus, he said that the state had sought permission for plasma therapy and using BCG vaccine.

Expressing concerns about the incident, Home Minister Amit Shah said:"Such events weaken India's fight against coronavirus and the administration needs to stay vigilant to avoid these, Amit Shah told the Chief Minister. He also offered his full support to the Maharashtra government."

"Around 4 p.m., a group of around 1500 migrant workers gathered near the Bandra railway station. In view of the extended lockdown, they wanted to back to their hometowns. Senior police officials tried to reason with them but a section turned violent. We managed to disperse them without causing any injury. Now the situation is peaceful and under control," said spokesperson Mumbai Police.
