After a brief lull, Congress in Maharashtra is likely to go through another round of desertions starting Wednesday. Former Congress minister Harshvardhan Patil is going to join the BJP on Wednesday, and is likely to be followed by Anandrao Patil, an MLC and a close aide of former Maharashtra CM Prithviraj Chavan.

Patil has met Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrakant Patil and is set to join the saffron party soon, said sources familiar with the matter.

It is learnt that former Congress minister Kripashankar Singh has been lobbying with the BJP to get his son Narendra Mohan Singh a ticket to contest from the Kalina seat. Interestingly, the Congress leader has also opened channels of communications with BJP’s ally, the Shiv Sena, seeking a ticket for his son from the same constituency.

Singh, it is believed, isn’t sure which of the two parties would put up its candidate from Kalina, so he is not taking a chance and is negotiating with both the parties.
