Maharashtra becomes first state to cross 3,000 Covid-19 cases

The state reported 165 more COVID-19 cases with 107 cases being reported only from Mumbai taking the total number of coronavirus cases in the state to 3081, the satte health department said.

Maharashtra has become the first state to cross 3,000 Covid-19 cases in the country even as the total case count surged past the 12,000 mark across India.

The state reported 165 more COVID-19 cases with 107 cases being reported only from Mumbai taking the total number of coronavirus cases in the state to 3081, the state health department said.

The state is the worst-hit in the country with a number of areas falling under the red zones reporting large outbreaks.


Maharashtra has 14 hotspot districts. Large outbreaks have been reported from Mumbai and Mumbai suburban district, Pune, Thane, Nagpur, Sangli, Ahmednagar, Yavatmal, Aurangabad, Buldhana and Nashik.

Kolhapur, Amravati and Palghar are also in the red zone.

The Centre has classified 170 districts as hotspots which fall in the red zone. These are further divided in two categories. There are 123 hotspot districts with a large outbreak and 47 hotspot districts with clusters.
