Maha to give financial aid to socially-relevant films: CM
Maharashtra government is ready to extend financial assistance for making socially-relevant films which find it difficult to get money as compared to commercial films, CM Vilasrao Deshmukh said.
Deshmukh was speaking at a function organised to release CDs of Marathi films `Devki Nandan Gopala' and `Raghu Maina', produced by late film maker Daddy Deshmukh.
"These films should be seen by a wider audience and long after they were first released in theatres. Today's generation has now got a chance to watch them at home through these CDs," Deshmukh said.
Veteran film maker Rajdutt, who directed `Devki Nandan Gopala,' which was based on life of social reformer Sant Gadge Maharaj, said the film, in which actor Shreeram Lagoo played the central role, had received critical acclaim abroad, with some foreign critics comparing Gadge Maharaj to Jesus.
Senior actor Ramesh Dev, who played the role of a moneylender in the film, said it was an ambition fulfilled to have played even a miniscule role in the film as the subject was close to his heart.
