Mumbai: The Maharashtra government on Tuesday withdrew relaxations given in Mumbai and Pune for establishments to function, saying that easing of the lockdown had led to a large number of people venturing out of home.

Mumbai and Pune are the worst affected by the Covid-19 crisis in Maharashtra.

The state government and the Mumbai municipal corporation on April 17 allowed functioning of ecommerce companies, electrical and electronic suppliers, confectionery shops, courier services and restaurants that offer takeaway. Activities related to agriculture products and construction where workers would be housed near the sites were also allowed. Tuesday’s revised order means these relaxations would not be allowed in the Mumbai and Pune metropolitan regions.

“The position prevailing prior the issuance of 17th April 2020 order shall be reinstated” in the two cities, the new order said. Ecommerce delivery would be permitted only of essential items such as food, medicines and medical equipment, it said.
