Maha govt to consider plan to buy additional power
A meeting of the Maharashtra cabinet here on Wednesday will discuss a proposal to purchase additional power from other states to tide over the acute power shortage, which has touched 5700 MW.
MUMBAI: A meeting of the Maharashtra cabinet here on Wednesday will discuss a proposal to purchase additional power from other states to tide over the acute power shortage, which has touched 5700 MW.
"We may even consider buying power at high cost to overcome the power crisis," Energy Minister Dilip Valse Patil told reporters here on Tuesday.
The proposal, to be placed before the cabinet meeting, also provides for the state government bearing the expenditure towards the purchase of this additional power instead of Mahavitaran, the power distribution company, bearing the burden.
A meeting of energy and industries ministers with industries representatives has been convened on February 14 to dicuss the current power shortage situation, official sources said.
The meeting assumes significance in the wake of reports that there is a proposal to increase load-shedding in industrial areas to two days, from the present one day.
