Maharashtra Governor BS Koshyari has written to the chief minister to know when the state is planning to hold elections for the Maharashtra Assembly Speaker and why the assembly session has been curtailed to two days. He wrote the letter on June 24, a day after a BJP delegation, led by Opposition leader Devendra Fadnavis, met him and requested him to send a report to the President on the “breakdown of constitutional machinery” in Maharashtra as the state government has not yet elected the Speaker. Koshyari has mentioned Fadnavis’ meeting and has asked the state to give a report on action taken on the three points raised by Fadnavis.

The first one was on the short legislative session; the second was on the Speaker’s election; and the last one on the steps being taken by the state to postpone the local body polls till OBC reservations are restored.
