Madhya Pradesh Governor Ram Naresh Yadav removal imminent

NEW DELHI: The sacking of Madhya Pradesh Governor Ram Naresh Yadav is imminent as CBI is said to be taking over investigation of the FIR in the Vyapam case in which he has been named as an accused by MP Police.

A copy of the said FIR has already reached the Home Ministry and Home Minister Rajnath Singh is said to have discussed the same with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a meeting today evening which was also attended by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and BJP President Amit Shah. "CBI will need to question the Governor soon enough in the case. Given his immunity as a Governor on a constitutional post, CBI could face hurdles in the same. The Centre will hence have to sack Yadav if he does not resign on his own in the next few days. The PM will take a final call," a senior government official said.

The Centre is looking at the precedent of former West Bengal Governor MK Narayanan and former Goa Governor BV Wanchoo who had resigned soon after they were questioned as a 'witness' by the CBI in the Agusta Westland scam last year. "Both those Governors were not named as accused in the case but still they had resigned on the Centre's nudge given their high constitutional position. The Madhya Pradesh Governor, on the other hand, is named as an accused in an FIR but has so far spurned the suggestions from the Centre to step down," the government official said.
