BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan declared that from the current academic year, his government will provide milk thrice a week in the mid day meal scheme in anganwaris and primary schools. He was being criticised for refusing to provide eggs in the mid day scheme.

It was all alleged that Chauhan was trying to appease the vegetarian constituency at the cost of the nutrition of school children.

"We never served eggs in the mid day meal scheme. There was no question of stopping eggs in the scheme," said Chauhan.

Chauhan said there is enough milk production in Madhya Pradesh to for implementing the scheme. "We will supply milk in powder form," he said.

States chief secretary Antony J Desa told ET that the government will provide 100 mili litre milk to every child for three days a week. "We will supply flavoured milk so that it's is not diverted for use in tea," said Desa.

The state government will procure milk powder from Sanchi milk cooperative of the state.
