The Madhya Pradesh government has opposed the Centre's decision to allow FDI in retail sector in the country.

BHOPAL: The Madhya Pradesh government has opposed the Centre's decision to allow foreign direct investment (FDI) in grocery sector in the country.

Foreign investment in grocery sector cannot be accepted leaving our people jobless. It will not be implemented in Madhya Pradesh, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said in a statement.

Chouhan made it clear that he was not opposed to FDI and added that it should be made in infrastructure sector.

He said that livelihood of lakhs of families in the country depends on grocery and small business. Therefore, foreign investment in grocery sector will increase unemployment and put lakhs of families under great financial difficulties.
