Madhu Koda money laundering case: ED attaches assets of ex-min

Sources said a few immovable assets of Rai in the state have been attached by the agency under Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

RANCHI: Enforcement Directorate ( ED) today attached assets worth about Rs 1.86 crore of former Jharkhand minister Hari Narayan Rai in connection with its money laundering probe into the alleged multi-crore illegal investments and hawala case against him and former Chief Minister Madhu Koda.

Sources said a few immovable assets of Rai in the state have been attached by the agency under Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

"The estimated value of the assets, which includes land properties, is about Rs 1.86 crore," sources said.

ED has accused the former minister in Koda government of having laundered Rs 4.83 crore in the disproportionate assets case against the former CM and his associates.

Koda, who was Jharkhand Chief Minister from September 2006 to August 2008, was arrested on November 30, 2009.

A PMLA attachment is aimed at depriving the accused of money laundering from taking benefits of his or her ill-gotten wealth.
