M Venkaiah Naidu expresses concern about increasing crime against women

HYDERABAD: Expressing concern over the growing incidence of crimes against women and children in the country, Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu today said cases like 'Nirbhaya' in Delhi and the alleged rape of a six-year-old child in Bangalore were "a scar on the society".

Stressing the need to empower women, he said participation of women in public life and the administration should increase much more.

The BJP leader was speaking after inaugurating mid-career training programme for IPS officers at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy here, an official press release said.

Stating that cross-border terrorism, fundamentalism and left-wing extremism were affecting the development programmes of the government, Naidu said training should prepare police officers to handle these issues effectively.

The Academy was a shining example of high standards of police training in the country, he said, assuring that the Centre would take all the necessary steps to implement recommendations of the parliamentary committee to enhance the institution's standard further.

He also interacted with the participants of the program, the faculty and other members of the staff.
