COLOMBO: Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayaka wonders if any nation other than Sri Lanka is "feeding a terrorist outfit" carrying out bloody attacks on its people and trying to cripple the economy, an obvious reference to the LTTE.
"Ours is the the only country which is feeding a terrorist outfit that is crippling the nation's development process by attacking its economic nerve centres," Wickramanayaka told a student gathering on Friday.
"The militants are hitting back at the security forces after consuming the food supplied to them. Is this taking place in any other country?" the Sri Lankan Premier asked.
He also said it was a well-known fact that the LTTE was utilising the medical supplies sent to the North to treat their cadres.
The Prime Minister said Sri Lanka was a nation filled with people having "moral qualities and humanity" and that was the reason why a "terror group" was also being provided food.
Wickramanayaka said that despite the attempts by the militants to destroy the country, the government had effectively engaged in the process to defeat terrorism while developing the country amidst the serious challenges.
He was speaking a function in his office here to hand over air tickets for Singapore to 13 Advanced Level students, who had performed brilliantly in studies in Galle, Matara and Hambantota districts of the island's south.
The students, during their week-long tour of Singapore, will visit universities and other import places in the city-state.
