Lt Guv is higher authority in a Union Territory: BJP

PUDUCHERRY: Puducherry BJP MLA M.Visweswaran today said in a Union Territory the Lt Governor, who is the Administrator, is the higher authority and the elected government can aid and advise him.

On his return from Delhi, Visweswaran told reporters here that there should be at the same time no room for any confrontation between the Lt Governor and the Ministry as otherwise routine administration would suffer a setback.

BJP was in solidarity with Puducherry government seeking full statehood status with the Centre, he said.

He said there was nothing wrong for BJP to seek allocation of the lone Rajya Sabha seat to the party in Puducherry. "Our aspiration for Rajya Sabha seat is our moral right and none can fault us for the plea," he said.

He said BJP supported the AINRC candidate in Lok Sabha polls and hence it could be reciprocated by AINRC by earmarking the Rajya Sabha seat to it.

BJP is an alliance partner of ruling AINRC and it supported the AINRC candidate in the Lok Sabha polls in April 2014. Visweswaran is a nominated legislator.

The present Congress Rajya Sabha MP from Puducherry P.Kannan will have his term till September this year.
