NEW DELHI: Delhi’s Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung met Aam Admi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal on Monday over calls for fresh polls, beginning the process of consultations with political parties ahead of the expiry of President’s rule in the national capital next month.

President’s rule, which can be imposed for six months at a time, has been in force in Delhi since February 17, after Kejriwal resigned as chief minister over the stalling of the Jan Lokpal Bill. All eyes are now on Jung as he is empowered to recommend an extension of President’s rule.

“He will take into account the full situation and after due consultations with others, send in a detailed report to the President of India for his consideration,” a statement issued by the Lt. Governor’s office said after Jung’s meeting with Kejriwal and his party MLAs.
