LS polls 2014: GNLA threatens to disrupt Congress campaign in Meghalaya
SHILLONG: The banned Garo National Liberation Army ( GNLA) has threatened to disrupt poll campaigns of the ruling Congress in Garo Hills region of Meghalaya if the state government does not clarify its stand on the proposed peace talks within three days.

"There shall be no meeting or campaigning within Garo Hills, nobody shall carry posters, banners, symbols of Congress till Chief Minister Mukul Sangma gives clarifications within three days on its position on the peace talks," GNLA Political Affairs Secretary Bikdot Marak said in a statement here last night.

The ultras issued the statement in the wake of recent reports that appeared in local media that the Chief Minister and the Union Ministry of Home Affairs had made conflicting statements on the peace talks with the organisation.

The GNLA has already appointed church leaders and a lawyer to negotiate peace on its behalf.

Meghalaya goes to poll for the Tura and Shillong Lok Sabha seats on April 9.
