New Delhi: The Lok Sabha passed three bills, including the much-awaited National Sports Governance Bill, amid Opposition protests over the revision of electoral rolls in Bihar.

The Lower House passed the National Sports Governance Bill and the National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill. The House witnessed sloganeering as soon as it assembled at 11 am on Monday. Speaker Om Birla conducted the Question Hour for about 20 minutes before adjourning the House till 2 pm.

When the House reassembled after lunch, the Opposition benches were empty. The two sports bills were introduced for consideration and passing.


Introducing the National Sports Governance Bill, sports minister Mansukh Mandaviya said, "It is the single biggest reform in sports since independence. This bill will ensure accountability, justice and best governance in sports federations."

Two MPs - TDP's Kesineni Shivnath and BJP's Ganesh Singh - participated in the discussion on the bill. The Opposition members returned to the house and started raising slogans in the well of the House. Amidst the din, the bills were passed by a voice vote following which the House was adjourned till 4 pm.

When the House met again at 4 pm, finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman introduced the Taxation Laws (Amendment) Bill that aims to provide tax exemptions to UPS subscribers. The bill was passed within five minutes and the House was adjourned for the day.
