LPG deliverymen should carry weighing equipment: Delhi government

NEW DELHI: Delhi government today instructed all LPG gas agencies to ensure that delievery boys carry weighing equipment failing which stringent action would be taken against them.

The government's move comes after Food and Supply Department recently conducted a survey and found that in many cases the delivery boy was not moving with weighing machines.

Department of Legal Metrology said that according to rules, delivery boys are required to measure the quantity using a weighing equipment.

"If it weighs less than 14.2 kg, any person can lodge a complaint with it for strict action against the agency that is supplying the cylinders with short measurement," the Department said.

It also cited the Supreme Court's direction to the Petroleum Ministry to instruct oil companies to ensure that the LPG delivery men carry the weighing equipment and the cylinder is delivered to the customer after showing the weight of the LPG in his/her presence.

Consumers should insist on weighing the LPG cylinder before accepting it. They are at liberty either to refuse or accept the faulty cylinder or demand the delivery man to bring another LPG cylinder.

The government has also appealed to consumers to insist on weighing the LPG cylinder before accepting it.
