Loyalty programme: pocket boroughs in Maharashtra

Several assembly constituencies have time and again returned candidates from a single political party in Maharashtra. Among all the parties, the Congress has had the most number of loyal constituencies. It has won at least eight out of the 11 elections in as many as 29 constituencies. Two seats Panvel (PWP) and Nawapur (Congress) have been singleparty stongholds for the maximum number of back-to-back terms (1962-2004).
