Low visibility disrupts flight movements in Delhi

Around 25 flights were delayed at the Indira Gandhi International airport here after a sudden fall in the runway visibility due to heavy fog this morning.

NEW DELHI: Around 25 flights were delayed at the Indira Gandhi International airport here after a sudden fall in the runway visibility due to heavy fog this morning.

"The Runway Visibility Range (RVR) suddenly dropped to 150 metres this morning due to heavy fog, disrupting the flight movements," airport officials said.

Over 25 flights, coming to Delhi and taking off from here, were delayed by up to two to three hours, they said.

The poor RVR forced the authorities to implement Low Visibility Procedures (LVP) at around 6:30 am. Some 12 flights landed using CAT-3B system, the officials said.

Till 9:15 am no domestic flight took off, they said. Passengers faced a lot of inconvenience as they had to wait for two to three hours before the flight operations resumed.

The situation is becoming normal, the officials added.
