London Olympics: Assam announces Rs 20 lakh for Mary Kom

GUWAHATI: Assam chief minister announced Rs 20 lakh forto Mary Kom for bringing glory to the country. Kom has clinched bronze medal in the boxing in the ongoing London Olympics.

In a congratulatory letter, Chief Minister Gogoi said, "Your remarkable feat in the London Olympics is a matter of great pride to the North East region in particular and the country as a whole. Your sterling performance would goad many a promising youngster to excel in boxing discipline and bring laurels to the country," he said.

Gogoi also said his Government would help set up a boxing academy in the State if the star boxer so desires. Mary is from Manipur and is employed in the state's police department.
