Kolkata: The Lok Sabha Secretariat has directed the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to obtain a "factual note" from the West Bengal government on Balurghat MP and Union minister Sukanta Majumdar's "breach of privilege" complaint to Speaker Om Birla on June 20. The LS Secretariat has asked the MHA that the response should be furnished urgently.

The Lok Sabha Secretariat said that the "factual note" will be submitted to Speaker Om Birla.

"A notice of question of 'breach of privilege' dated June 20, 2025, was given by Dr Sukanta Majumdar, minister of state and MP against Superintendent of Police, (Rahul Goswami) and Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Diamond Harbour, West Bengal for allegedly failing to protect his convoy from being attacked by a mob," people in the know said.

On June 20, Majumdar had written to Birla, alleging a mob attack on his convoy on June 19 in Budge Budge in South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal and termed it a "grave breach of security" and "contempt of House".

In the letter, Majumdar accused the state police of failing to protect him during his visit to Budge Budge.
