Lok Sabha secretariat sends privilege notices to Thackeray, Raut
The Lok Sabha secretariat has issued notices to Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray and Saamna editor, Sanjay Raut MP, asking them to respond to the breach of privileges petition filed against them.
As per the rule, the Lok Sabha Speaker will examine the responses from Mr Thackeray and Mr Raut while deciding whether there was a prima facie case against them that warrants the reference of the petition against them to the proceedings of the Lok Sabha Privileges Committee.
Though the Lok Sabha secretariat decision to seek explanation from the the two accused do not technically amount to a reflection of the Chairs assessment of the merit of the case, in practical terms, some MPs said, the move amounts to bringing the conduct of the two Sena leaders under the scrutiny of the Lok Sabha Speaker.
RJD member of the Lok sabha, Devendra Prasad Yadav last week filed the petitions against the two Sena leaders with the Speaker, saying the Saamna article against the people of Bihar amounted to a breach of privileges and contempt the House.
