Lok Sabha polls: Tripura registers 45 per cent and Assam 40 per cent votes till noon

Tripura West recorded voting percentage of 45 percent while five constituencies in Assam registered 40 percent votes till 12pm.

Guwahati: Over 45 per cent voters have cast their votes in Tripura's West Lok Sabha constituency and over 40 per cent have voted in the five Lok Sabha constituencies of Tezpur, Koliabor, Jorhat, Dibrugarh and Lakhimpur in Assam till 12 pm on Monday.

Chief Electoral Officer ( CEO ) of Tripura, Ashutosh Jindal told ET, "Brisk polling is underway."

Tripura has history of massive turnouts. In Assam peaceful polling has taken place in the five places. Additional chief electoral officer Assam, R. C Jain said, "Around 40 percent votes are cast in the five constituencies."

There is enthusiasm as for the first time voters in Assam are exercise franchise based on photo electoral rolls. At least 57.02 per cent of population of the state is voters. Total electorate in the state stood at 1.87 Crore. In last lok Sabha polls the number of electorate stood 1.74 Crore.
