Lok Sabha polls 2014: Top artists to pitch for Narendra Modi today

NEW DELHI: In an event that will perhaps add a softer dimension to Narendra Modi, a group of artists from various fields are coming together in Constitutional Club here on Monday to take a pledge to support him as Prime Minister of the country.

Danseuse Sonal Mansingh, singers Anoop Jalota and Richa Sharma, theater director associated with NSD Suresh Bhardwaj and film director Madhur Bhandarkar will endorse Modi’s candidature for the top job "in solidarity for good governance." Some other artists from various fields are also expected at the function on Monday.

BJP’s national secretary Vani Tripathi, who coordinated the event, said that all the artists have offered unequivocal support to Modi because they believe he can offer good governance and a better cultural policy. "Artists are ignored and most of the country’s cultural academies are run in an ad-hoc manner. Even they aspire for professionalism and stability," she said.

Tripathi herself has been associated with theater and films. This event comes days after Bollywood was split along pro-Modi and anti-Modi lines.
